A New Campus Opens in Victorville
The City of Victorville cut the ribbon on its new Wellness Center, a campus built to serve people experiencing homelessness. Symba Center is the service provider, partnering with the city to deliver wraparound services on site. AJ of Symba Center walked the campus on ribbon cutting day, and this four-minute cut covers the highlights.
"A Long Time Coming"
Symba CEO Dr. Shawn Smith summed up the day in the courtyard where the ribbon was cut. "Today we celebrated a momentous occasion for the community. We're bringing services to people who don't have housing," he said. "It's been a long time coming, and so many people had a huge part in it."
Built Around How People Actually Live
The campus was designed so people can do things they enjoy while they get back on their feet. It starts outside with a basketball court and a pet park, where residents can bring their animals for fresh air and room to run.
The resident rooms come in several sizes:
- Single rooms with storage for personal belongings and a desk
- Rooms for two, with a bed on each side
- Family units with a play area, a full bathroom and accessibility features like a shower chair
Meals, Plans and Care Under One Roof
The dining hall serves residents from a new commercial kitchen. In the admin building, clients check in at a lobby window, and at least 10 case managers will work from the office behind it. There are computers for clients to use, offices for staff, and a conference room where the team will plan together.
The tour ends at the medical clinic, fully stocked and paid for by the City of Victorville.
