The Visionary Behind Play With The Pros Camp
Coach Abbi Ghasemi’s athletic journey spans over three decades, making him one of the most respected and accomplished coaches in the pickleball and tennis community. Born and raised in Iran, Coach Abbi’s professional athletic career began with extraordinary achievements in multiple sports. From a two-year stint on the Iran National Beach Soccer Team to excelling as a collegiate wrestler in Tehran, a professional swim coach, and a pro-league water polo star, Coach Abbi's athletic foundation is as diverse as it is impressive.
Abbi's passion for sports eventually led him to tennis, where he dominated tournaments in Iran for 20 years. After relocating to the United States in 2014 with his wife and daughter, Coach Abbi quickly established himself as a leading figure in tennis and pickleball instruction. He earned USPTA and USTA certifications and founded a highly acclaimed tennis academy in Aliso Viejo, Orange County. Recognized for his innovative approach and passion for teaching, Abbi was recruited to oversee the youth and adult programs at the prestigious Tennis and Pickleball Club in Newport Beach.
In 2018, Coach Abbi launched the club’s pickleball program, which has since grown to include over 2,000 members. Under his leadership, the club has become a premier destination for national and regional pickleball tournaments, hosting 11 USAP and MLP-sanctioned events in 2022 alone, with over 1,000 players competing. Many of his students, some of whom hit their first dink under his guidance, have gone on to win hundreds of gold medals, including at the USA Pickleball National Championships in Indian Wells.
Coach Abbi’s unique ability to blend technical expertise, strategic insights, and an infectious enthusiasm for the game has earned him a reputation as one of the top pickleball teaching pros in the country.
